Pre-planning goes a long way in this department. Before filling your wardrobe moving boxes, fill the bottom with paper grocery bags (with handles) that are full of shoes and other closet items. This will help fully utilize the space, while also making the items retrievable. You can also take advantage of your luggage by using each piece as a free moving box.
Moving Tips
When the movers start loading up your boxes, insist on keeping similar items together. This will make the process of unpacking your boxes and finding all your stuff immensely easier. Keeping valuables and important documents with you in your personal vehicle is also a good idea. You just never know.
